For many children and young adults who have been affected by abuse and neglect, focusing on an education can be a difficult task. The Foundation believes education is a powerful tool that allow children and young adults to achieve their full potential and shape their future.
Dare to Dream Bursary Program
We believe that a lack of funds should not stand in the way of the educational aspirations for young adults who have already faced far too many obstacles at such an early age. The Dare to Dream Bursary Program provides funds to young adults who are in care, or formerly in the care of the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa to assist with their post-secondary education tuition. This program gives them the opportunity to pursue their life goals and break the cycle of abuse and neglect.
Scotia Capital Leap to Learning Program
Children and young adults who have faced the hardships of abuse and neglect may experience learning setbacks while in school. The Scotia Capital Leap to Learning Program provides funds for tutoring to children and young adults to assist with their progress through all stages of education.
Backpack Program
Going back to school is an exciting time, but for some families, that exciting time can turn to stress when it comes to paying for new school supplies. The Backpack Program was created after noticing a significant need for school supplies amongst our children and young adults living in low-income families. In collaboration with the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa, the Foundation assists in the collection and distribution of new backpacks and school supplies.
In September 2010, 268 backpacks filled with essential school supplies were distributed to children and young adults in our community.
